My First Leica M9-P

Leica has been the centre point of my photography journey since 2012 when I purchased my first digital Leica , the M9-P. Back in 2012, it was the World's first full-frame mirrorless (technically speaking) with one of the class-leading image quality. To this date, the M9-P is still a very good machine to capture.

Leica M (type 240)

As technology advances, Leica came up with a M-camera that in many ways "do a better job" than M9(P) could - the Leica M (type 240). It is a name unique to its own term, as well as a tool lives up to the customers ask for: New 24megapixel CMOS sensor with video capturing capability (many Leica die-hard fans complained!), longer battery life, an Electronic View Finder (EVF), GPS module (separate add-on), etc. It was a hit, everyone suddenly jumped to the M240 boat and praise how much quicker it operates. And it is the case where it has been my main everyday camera for the last 3 years. The workflow is much at ease, the files are malleable (better not to blown out the highlight) than the M9-P, as well as the CMOS delivers a true vibrant and good dynamic range colours.

Leica SL (type 601)

I am currently using a Leica SL (type 601) as my main camera, there are two main reasons for the switch: (1) Its fast auto focus system enables me to nail focus in any occasion, also the superb 4.4million-dot EVF gives me the best focus peaking when I use with M-lenses; (2) It shoots in complete silence, thanks to the electronic shutter (which goes to 1/16000! for sunny daylight with f/2 or larger aperture) I can capture live concert and wedding photos without the disturbing guests with shutter release noise. It is equipped with built-in GPS where I could track and plot my location when I import my files to Lightroom for reference.

Nikon D810

It is a camera I trust - I abuse it, I dropped, I used it in extreme temperature and weather, it stood up to my harsh treatment and survived. It is versatile, multi-talented (Photo, 1080p Videos, in-body Time-lapse, etc), pixel-peeking friendly (36megapixels). Together with he battery grip and Nikon's amazing collection of lenses, it has been my "work horse" for almost 3 years. I call this an investment - It will actually make money for you! In 2018, the D850 is released, with more megapixels, and faster AF. But I am not justified to upgrade from D810 as it is still very much a machine that can't be beaten in terms of capability it delivers.
